original album artwork for The Mars Volta’s Amputechture by Storm Thorgerson, dropped in favor of Jeff Jordan’s featured artwork for reasons unknown. i doctored it pretty lazily in photoshop because the clearest copy i could find was from a magazine clipping. i honestly prefer it, not because its more obvious or in line with Thorgerson’s previous work, but because it just looks cooler to my eye.

2002.  Interpol releases their debut album Turn on the Bright Lights.  The garage rock revival of the early 2000s continues, and Interpol are the post-punk masters.  Dark, powerful, and violent, this album deserves every bit of praise it received.

Also, they have a lot of couches.

2003.  Mars Volta releases their debut album De-Loused in the Comatorium.  With its chaotic jazzy-rock madness, this album fuses hardcore and prog rock in insanely fun new ways.  And its commercial success proved that prog is not just for guitar geeks anymore
